Alleys

Whoa, I have said it before and I'll say it again. Time flies! I haven't explored near as much as I'd like, but this coming weekend should be a treasure trove of abandoned goodness...and I will definitely be posting the adventure!

If you live in Central Alberta, you will know that summer was virtually a no-show, it popped in to say hello for a day here and there but by the time we got comfortable with our flip flops on and the BBQ going....it flipped us the bird and laughed in our untanned faces, maybe next year suckers!

Today I am posting two photos. Both are an alley of sorts and both are different from my usual subject matter. I kinda love both of them and neither have to do with summer.

Enjoy the last week of 'summer'!

  1. ...Jenn, I must say that I've NEVER seen such a small bowling alley! I'm waiting to see your gems.

    1. Hi Tom! It was a unique place, it's a former military base and this would have been in the rec building. Most of it is abandoned but the town uses this building I think. There are empty street with street lights and fire hydrants and no houses.

  2. Cool bowling alley. Reminds me of the bowling alley in the boys club where I use to bowl as a kid. There wasn't a pin machine to pick up the pins so some kids hand standed them up. I love the brick alley, it's pretty unique and attractive.

    1. Hi Bill! I had a friend tell me she used to be a pin setter! I was looking through a fence for that so it's a nice private brick alley lol.

  4. Your description of our Alberta summer is entirely accurate, alas. Love the two photos! The final one made me think of Fan Tan Alley in Victoria. I'm itching to go there again.

  5. What Debra said: now that she mentioned it, it does remind me of Fan Tan Alley. I love Victoria. My wife and I had a couple of stays at the Empress Hotel.

    1. You're both right....it is somewhere near FanTan Alley! This trip we stayed across the harbour from the Empress. I have always loved the Empress but it looks different now without the ivy, which I read is temporary. Thanks for stopping by Ol'Buzzard!

  7. I think I've bowled once or twice in my childhood. The place where I bowled went under some years ago.

    1. Hi Adam, smallest I have ever seen! The bowling alley in my town has 7 lanes of 5 pin and glow bowling at night lol!

  10. Bowling alleys didn't figure at all in my younger days so I've never even tried it - don't think I'll be starting now! There are some towns in England where narrow alleys are everywhere. We have lots of local names for them too like ginnel, jitty, snicket, wynd and twitchel.

    1. Hi John! I have never tried 10 pin bowling...but I have done 5 pin a bit. I have nto improved over the years lol.
I love all those names! If i'd heard those words, other than 'wynd', I would have no idea what it referred to!

  16. I love the second, with all the brick, that's so pretty! Summer is holding on here. Today feels like fall, but we warm back up tomorrow. There have been several days this month that broke high temperature records.
