Super Blood Wolf Moon Lunar Eclipse!

Have you seen enough moon photos yet today? I have seen them all over social media and I am not even mad about it. I love them!

I missed the early big moon rising over the horizon but I did get some shots before, during and just after the full eclipse. It got cloudy as the eclipse was finishing, but I am just happy I could see it at all since the forecast called for clouds.

Where you able to see the eclipse? Did you watch it or was it no big deal to you?

Moon Madness

I have always been fascinated with  the incomprehensible vastness of space. Not only is my head often in the clouds, it sometimes feels even farther.

There are a variety of celestial events this year including the SUPER BLOOD WOLF MOON ECLIPSE! Happening this Sunday. There is a lot going on at once....learn more about it here.

At Christmas, I received a crazy telephoto lens that I am looking forward to testing on this special moon. In preparation I took a couple shots a few days ago and am most impressed. It better not be cloudy, is all I keep thinking.

So here is a regular photo taken on my phone....awww look at that cute little moon:

Here is the moon with my good lens:

Needless to say I am looking forward to some SUPER BLOOD WOLF MOON ECLIPSE pictures. Stay tuned!

New Year, New Barns!

Just barns! Barns that I have come across in the last couple of months and all of them not too far from home.

Normally barns with 'new' metal roofs don't interest me as much as an original barn but the contrast of the green roof and red barn is too pretty to ignore!

This old barn must have been part of an old homestead at some point but it now right on the outskirts of a town.

Slowly sagging.

Another green roof and red barn!

My fave kind of barn...the gothic arch roof!

Green or black roof?

Swoooon! What a beaut!

Is this even a barn?

Hoar Frost and More Frost

hoar·frost
/ˈhôrˌfrôst/
noun
noun: hoar frost; noun: hoar-frost
  1. a grayish-white crystalline deposit of frozen water vapor formed in clear still weather on vegetation, fences, etc.

rime1
/rīm/
noun
noun: rime ice
  1. frost formed on cold objects by the rapid freezing of water vapor in cloud or fog.
    • LITERARY
      hoarfrost.

I have mentioned hoar frost before and have had people not know that that particular kind of frost had it's own name, so there you go. It could also be rime ice which is similar to hoar frost, except for how it forms...and since I am not in the habit of watching frost form, I call it all hoar frost.

I love taking photos on these frosty days. There have been a few really good days of frost at the end of 2018 and again this last weekend.....so you know I had to go get a few photos. You have to get while the gettin's good.

The differences in both days was interesting, one was sunny with blue skies, the other was grey and almost monochromatic. It's hard to tell in the photos, but the frost was different on both days, maybe one was hoar frost, one was rime ice? I think I prefer the monochromatic landscape with the spikier frost.

A Look Back

Hello Everyone! I did not get any blogging or blog reading done since my last post. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with friends and family, food and drink and most of all joy and happiness. I am looking forward to a great year and want to wish you all the same.

Here is a 'Top 9' collage of 2018 from Instagram. I post a photo a day there so out of 365 images, these were the most popular. A couple of these are my personal favourites but not my very favourites. Interestingly 4 of 9 are from the same trip and 7 of 9 are winter shots. The people have spoken.

If you are on Instagram and want to see more, you can find me @jennspix

I am going to go back to a quick day trip taken on December 22nd. Any exploring trip is a good trip but this one was great due to the fact that 3 old schools, barns, abandoned houses and even some Texas Longhorns were spotted.

Here are the 3 schools in alphabetical order, which seems fitting:

Iola SD #1900 1908-1959. On private property.

Western Sunset SD#4662 1935-1957. On private property, used as a storage shed.

Willesden Green SD#3074 1914-1960. Named after a suburb of London. On a lonely hill with nothing around it except power lines.

I don't make resolutions but there are things I'd like to accomplish this year. The usual, spend more time with my son, eat healthier, and do well at my new job and also with my little side business. Of course my continuing mission is to explore strange new areas, to seek out old buildings and abandoned places, to boldly go where no one has been for awhile.

Do you make resolutions?

Take care all and catch up with you soon.
