A Splash of Colour

Right now the landscape is dominated by fields of yellow. The annual canola bloom. I am sure my son is tired of me pointing and saying, "Look! Canola!".

It's such a vibrant and brilliant yellow that it boggles the mind to accept that it is a natural colour. I also came across a particularly vivid kind of wild rose. At least I think it's a wild rose, I think our provincial wild rose is a different kind and a lighter pink.

Enjoy these pops of colour!

  2. That first photo is beautiful. The yellow blooms with that threatening sky...priceless.

  4. I'm very familiar with fields of Canola, or oil-seed rape as it's known over here, they grow it a lot in Cambridgeshire. Under certain lighting conditions on days of early-morning mist it does more than pop - it glows, seeming to colour the mist above it yellow too. I've seen that a couple of times but have yet to photograph it. I really love that you've shown it under that grey sky where it looks even better than under unbroken blue. I've never seen a rose like that growing wild, it's a beauty!

    1. Hi John, I should get up earlier and go picture taking and try and catch that! It may be just me but I have noticed a lot more wild roses this year!

  6. Lovely, lovely pics again, friend Jenn. Not sure whether that's an Alberta Rose, but don't matter. Hey, have you ever looked at red roses with your sun glasses on? I remember doing that in the rose garden by the Empress Hotel, and the increased intensity of the colour just blew me away. Love, cat. PS: Sorry we haven't been able to meet up yet in order to explore my homestead. First, the weather was bad, then I had to work some long stretches, now the weather is perfect, but I don't have a car at the moment … sigh … c.

  9. Technically it's not a natural colour as Canola is a genetically modified crop. I get the point though and I can't help but to take notice when the sun shines on Canola crops. I know of no other crop that reacts to the sun ☀ that way.
