What the duck?

2 animal posts in a row is unheard of on this blog, but I liked this duck couple.

I spotted them behind my sisters house, just beyond her patio. This small green space has a resident rabbit and a cheeky squirrel, but ducks are unusual. I assumed, that Mallards tend to stay near water but this was nowhere near any water and is actually in a dense residential neighbourhood next to a major roadway. I hope they made it to their destination, wherever that may be.

  1. ...I like the ducks, but I have a resident rabbit in my garden. What a pain!

    1. The best solution I ever found for deer, rabbits etc being a garden nuisance was a motion activated sprinkle. It cycles through one "rotation" anytime anything wandered into my small acreage garden. They were never hurt and they never returned. Bought it at Lee Valley Edm.

  2. What a handsome couple they make. During the nesting season Mallards can turn up anywhere as they search for a nest site. I've even seen them sitting on the roof of a house.

    1. Interesting, I hope this nice couple found a good spot. They haven't been seen since. Maybe all the 'paparazzi' taking photos made them leave!!

  3. Maybe they are just out for a nice stroll.

  4. Two nice photos, but did the squirrel elude you?

  5. The mallards look guilty as if they were caught in the wrong place.

    1. Me too, in Sylvan Lake there is a deer family and they are always out and about in town and it's neat to catch a glimpse of them.

  7. It sounds like an unusual place for mallards alright. Love that bunny too.

    1. There have even been grouse spotted in the same spot. It's a happening spot!
